Some interesting links from both the U.S. and the U.K. :
- Chris Bowers over at Open Left gives us a classic example of why conservative Democrats being challenged in primaries leads to them being… less conservative
- I said in my post on the filibuster last week that the obvious reform needed to that arcane rule of the Senate is to get into the habit of actually making Republicans filibuster, rather than accepting a 60 vote target without forcing them to make a public stand. Now it looks like Steny Hoyer, House majority leader, is saying the same thing to Senate majority leader Harry Reid. Let’s hope he gets the message.
- National Review has done a list of the top 25 most conservative movies and predictably it includes, uh, no conservative movies… Unless you consider films like The Dark Knight or Ghostbusters conservative. Hahahahaha
- Simon Carr in the Independent points out the nasty habit politicians have of never apologising, at least in the true sense of the word
- I don’t understand the fuss around London mayor Boris Johnson’s latest mini-scandal. Politicians everywhere swear constantly, and this is perfectly normal. In fact the only unrealistic thing about TV’s The West Wing was that the character Josh didn’t say “fuck” every three words (stand up, current White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel)
- Glenn Greenwald takes on, in his typically devastating way, conservative columnist David Brook’s hilarious defence of lobbyists as “experts”.
- This is a map that, in a few seconds, shows the expansion of Wallmart across America in the last thirty years. It’s pretty cool and I guarantee it will blow your mind. (hat tip to Ezra Klein)
