About

What is Entangled Alliances?

Entangled Alliances is a brand new blog dedicated to analysis and opinion on world politics and current events.

That’s a pretty wide area

Yes, it is.  We do tend to focus on certain areas:  some of us are all about the U.S., others have a thing for the EU and, well, we all have a stake in U.K. politics…  So certainly those three areas will receive a disproportionate amount of coverage. But really, depending on the headlines or our whims,  the whole word is our blogging oyster. So to speak.

Who writes it?

Four British early twenty-somethings who met while studying at Oxford University; all of whom share an unhealthy interest in politics and all of whom spend unhealthy amounts of time reading the latest news & views on the interwebs… (if you are reading this and spend all day on Warcraft, substitute “unhealthy” for “perfectly normal”)

Do you have a political bias?

By and large, we are all self-described left wing liberals to varying degrees. Depending on what term you feel comfortable with, feel free to substitute for other vague terms: progressive, liberal, centre-left etc. It’s safe to say though that we hail from the  british tradition of democratic socialism with a strong dose of civil libertarianism. Political categories are fun!

Anything else you’d like to add?

Only that, here at Entangled Alliances, we put a high stake in accurate facts and carefully reasoned opinion. We are aiming to provide some incisive, original analysis that can hold its own in the sprawling maze of the blogosphere. If you like what we’re doing, or think we’re rubbish, then please drop us a line. In the not-so-distant future we aim to start doing lots of cool things with our blog – including advocacy for causes we like, proper user registrations and other exciting stuff.

I have another question!

No problem. Fire any general questions to entangledalliances@gmail.com  or else you can e-mail us individually – see the bios below

Edward Crocker hails from Manchester, England. He graduated not so long ago with a law degree from Oxford University and is now studying for a Masters in Journalism. His main focus blogging-wise is american politics, though he’s also liable to spend some time blogging on the middle east, UK politics and recession economics.  He has seen Ferris Bueller’s day off 45 times, eaten over 600 subway sandwiches, and can name all 50 american states in alphabetical order if only someone would ask him.

Mark Brough is from Birmingham (UK), and recently graduated from Oxford in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He is currently working in London for an aid transparency initiative (among other things). His focus is on UK and European politics. He’s also the tech support guy for this website.

Mark Bailey, who is from the North of England, is finishing up a degree in History and Modern Languages at Oxford University.  He’s just come back from a year in France, where he drank coffee and pondered whether perpetual strikes were a symbol of social justice or the death-knell of a modern society.  He also bored French teenagers to death by dedicating his classes to an elaborate explanation of the US primary system.  He’ll be blogging about US, EU and UK politics, and pretty much anything else that catches his eye.

Chris Fellingham is from Oxford, or thereabouts and met his fellow bloggers at University. After stepping out into the world after university he did a brief internship at ComRes, he followed this up by working on the Obama campaign in Denver, Colorado. Life after University had never seemed more fun and with the exhilaration of victory Chris returned to the UK….where he was hit with a string of application failures and unemployment. As Chris attempts to reconstruct the shattered remnants of this arcadian period he will also blog on the EU, Environmental issues and the US, but studiously avoid the quagmire of UK politics.
